THERE'S NO DENYING
"I found a half-written poem containing the first verse of this song in an old discarded manuscript book. I have no recollection of writing it. The rest of the song wrote itself in a day. It is my personal favourite song of everything I have written so far. It feels most like 'me' expressing myself fully." – 2011
Finally getting the hang of expressing the enormity of Love. Hooray!! – 2015 Written: 2011 Recorded: 2011 |
LEAD ON
"I discovered Sam Vittoria's wonderful music and angelic voice in 2007 and was immediately inspired by him. I have sung versions of many of his songs at various events and they are always well received. This song is a tribute to his talent and the beauty he has created through his music." – 2011
Such clear words, thank you Sam. – 2015 Recorded: 2011 Words and music: Sam Vittoria |
HYMNE À L'AMOUR
"This stunning song was first recorded by one of my all-time favourite singers, Edith Piaf, in 1949. She also wrote the lyrics. Since then it has been recorded by many artists, including Josh Groban, who recorded a beautiful version a few years ago."
So funny. I recorded this at a time when I really couldn't understand French very well. I suspect I might be able to sing it a bit more convincingly now. – 2015 Recorded: 2011 Lyrics: Edith Piaf Music: Marguerite Monnot |
LOVE IS
"This song was inspired by my beautiful spiritual teacher Gangaji. When I think of her, and of her essential true nature, I feel 'at home' in an ocean of Love. When I sing this song I feel unbounded gratitude for her and the unwavering message of Love she brings to the world." – 2011
This song captures quite well the sense of being 'out of control' that I was experiencing at this point of my life. It was a disorienting time, but looking back, a very necessary phase. – 2015 Written: 2010 Recorded: 2011 |
WE WILL ALWAYS BE US
"This song was written prior to any spiritual work. I find it interesting to look back and see that it can easily fit into the style of speaking from the perspective of individual consciousness and universal consciousness simultaneously. Perhaps an unconscious foretaste of my true self expressing itself." – 2011
I've got no idea what this album cover note means. I must have been on drugs when I wrote it! – 2015 Written: 2003 Recorded: 2011 |
HOMME
"This poem, by French poet Paul Verlaine, has been my favourite poem since I discovered it at 19 years of age. It was written about his male lover, Arthur Rimbaud. I wrote the music to these beautiful words and hope it does them justice." – 2011
Ditto about the French here. Zoot alors!!– 2015 Written: 2010 Recorded: 2011 Words: Paul Verlaine |
I SEE YOU
"This song is my first attempt to sing/speak simultaneously from the viewpoint of individual consciousness and from the perspective of Universal Consciousness. This paradoxical way of viewing and living in the world can be at once both confusing and liberating. My Musical Theatre influence comes out in this waltz." – 2011
Ditto about the cover note and drugs here. I'm quite fond of the musical interlude though. – 2015 Written: 2010 Recorded: 2011 |
IN THE HEART OF DESIRE
"This song was written whilst walking along the beach at night during a massive electrical storm in Byron Bay. This occurred during a retreat with my spiritual teacher, Eli Jaxon Bear. At the time I was inquiring deeply into the nature of desire, and how attachment to desire maintains the suffering individual's identity." – 2011
This song really needs some rhythm. Bring on some drums, I say. – 2015 Written: 2010 Recorded: 2011 |

SILENT AWARENESS
"During the recording of this album I was drawn to record myself sitting in silence meditating. Truthfully I have nothing to say in words or music that isn't always present in the Silence between the sounds. It was only afterwards that I discovered John Cage's famous work, 4'33", which features the orchestral performers sitting in silence. Uncanny. This is definitely my 'favorite' track on the album. I invite you not to skip over this track but to sit quietly and listen attentively."
Nothing to say. – 2015 Recorded: 2011 |
