ONCE UPON A TIME . . .

. . . in a far away land called Stevie's imagination, Angel came bursting into existence with great enthusiasm.
As a young child she was full of joy. Somewhere along the way she lost it . . . the joy, that is. This story tells how she rediscovered it.

The shadow is that part of our unconscious minds that holds our darkest secrets as well as our most traumatic and shameful memories. If it remains unexamined it will continue to sabotage our lives, and cause suffering in some way.

CREATIVITY & LIBIDO

Angel is the manifestation in form of my joyful, creative side, as well as my mischievous, naughty side . . . of my shadow.
Angel evolved in fits and starts throughout my life, and as you can see from the slideshow above, sometimes the energy involved is feminine, other times masculine, sometimes a fusion of the two, but always playful, joyful, mischievous, and creative. In recent years, Angel has been more fully allowed—rather than repressed and hidden from view, or unconsciously indulged in an addictive fashion, as used to happen in the past—and as a result this creative, playful energy is progressively more available to me. This energy is gradually being integrated more and more into all aspects of my life. I believe it's what Freud called the libido. For me it feels like pure joy and aliveness. |

Angel is my expression of joy and creativity, but she is also the home of my inflated ego and of my shadow. The joy and creativity is freed up more and more as I continue to shine the light of consciousness onto my shadow through self-inquiry.

SINGER, PIANIST, & CABARET PERFORMER
|
As Angel I perform cabaret style numbers, mostly from musical theatre. Some of the characters I portray in my shows include Maria van Trapp and Mother Superior from The Sound of Music; Eva Peron from Evita; Queen Elsa from Frozen; King George III, Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, and both Eliza and Angelica Schuyler from Hamilton; Figaro from Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro; Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde from Jekyll and Hyde; Fantine, Eponine, Jean Valjean, Marius, Javert, and Thenardier from Les Miserables; Glinda and Elphaba from Wicked; Desirée from Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music; Pippin and his grandmother, Queen Berthe, from Pippin; Evan from Dear Evan Hansen; Lola from Kinky Boots; etc.
Angel has performed at parties and events—including my own wedding 2016—in Sydney, Perth, Rio de Janeiro, Amsterdam, and Ashland, Oregon. I've also been hosting soirées at my home, which are a fun part of the evolution. These days, rather than only performing other people's songs, more energy is being channelled into writing my own songs, the final goal of which is to create my own musical, currently entitled: Beyond the Mirror. |

Angel Stevie—that is, the fully integrated me—is the inspiration for the protagonist, Angel O, in Beyond the Mirror.
